Otsego County Farmers, Come Hear Tax Expert To the Editor: The Town of Otsego is hosting an expert on agricultural exemptions at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8, in the town hall, 811 County Highway 26 in Fly Creek. This is a chance for expert Mark Twentyman, Agricultural Unit Chief of New York State Office of Real Property Services, to help farmers understand the exemption requirements and forms. The Town is hoping that all the county’s farmers, those who rent land to farmers, and any interested assessors will take the opportunity to learn more about this important and complex topic. Farmers must typically make a $10,000 income from farming operations and have seven or more acres to be considered for the exemption, but some exceptions exist, including those renting their land to farmers. Time will be provided for those who want help with the forms at the end of the meeting. H. MARIE WALTERS Assessor Town of Otsego Help Double-Lung-Transplant Beneficiary Editor’s Note: This e-mail has been circulating, encouraging people to attend the upcoming benefit for double-lung-transplant patient Stephen Tompkins. I wanted to ask for your help in letting everyone know about a benefit for Stephen Tompkins and family that will be held Saturday, Dec. 29, at the Old School gym. Stephen just received a double lung transplant on Dec. 13 at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. For those of you who don’t know Stephen, his family had a dairy farm for many years up near the new school and his sister is Christine Tompkins, who is married to Chris Horvath. The benefit will consist of a spaghetti dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. and a dance from 8 p.m. to midnight featuring Michael Feulner & The Burners (the same band that played at the Harvest Party this year). The cost for the dinner is $7 for adults and $4 for kids under 12. The cost of the dance is $10 per person. All proceeds to benefit Stephen Tompkins and family. Come out to one or both events if you can or just come by to give a donation. Stephen’s a great guy and it would be wonderful to have a big turnout.
