Don’t Miss Ice Cream Social COOPERSTOWN – Cooperstown Presbyterian Church invites the entire community to its traditional Ice Cream Social from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 6, Cooperstown Presbyterian Church, Pioneer Street. Celebrating 200 years of community gatherings, the event will feature food crafts and second-hand treasures, plants, music and games. The Ice Cream Social will be held indoors in case of rain. Get Bargains for Brookwood COOPERSTOWN – Brookwood Garden will host its annual Garage Sale and Plant Sale. Friday, July 6 through Sunday, July 8, Admission to the sale is free. Pathfinder Series Hosts Sweet Cider EDMESTON – Pathfinder Village Summer Concert Series will present the band Sweet Cider at 7 p.m., Saturday, July 7, Pathfinder Village Pavilion, 3 Chenango Rd., Edmeston, Sweet Cider, the Northeast Country Music Association’s 2005 Bluegrass Group of the Year, will bring their snappy sounds to the Pavilion. Glimmerglass Season Begins COOPERSTOWN – The 2007 season at Glimmerglass Opera begins this weekend with the production of “Orpheus in the Underworld,” at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 7 and 2 p.m. Monday, July 9, and with “Orphee et Eurydice” at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 8. Offenbach’s “Orpheus in the Underworld” is an operetta that takes an irreverent view of the Orpheus myth. Married to Orpheus, Eurydice is having an affair with Aristeus, who is actually Pluto, ruler of the Underworld, in disguise. “Orphée et Eurydice,” the Berlioz version of Gluck’s masterpiece, will feature the American premiere of the new Bärenreiter edition.
